Residents at a Suffolk nursing home have been knitting gifts for babies at two of the county’s hospitals.

The knitting club at Aldringham Court near Leiston have been making bonnets for the Neonatal Special Care Unit at Ipswich Hospital as well as comfort squares for those in the Special Care Unit at James Paget Hospital.

These squares are placed on a mother before being moved with the baby if the two have to separate, so the baby can smell the mother.

Two of the knitters Nancy Allum and Doreen Watson visited Ipswich Hospital with Elaine Holmes, activity co-ordinator at the home to hand over their hard work.

Care home manager Tracey Cumby said: “Nancy and Doreen were delighted to be able to hand deliver the bonnets to the Neonatal team at Ipswich Hospital.

“We hope the hospitals can put the bonnets and squares to good use and we hope to donate even more to them in the future.”
