Ipswich has the highest pass rate for driving tests in Suffolk and north Essex, it has been revealed.

According to data from the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency, Ipswich had a pass rate of 61.2% in 2016/17.

In the same period, Colchester had the fewest number of passes with a rate of just 41.3%.

The national average for passes for 2016/17 was 47.1%, which Colchester fell short of and Ipswich exceeded.

The figures showed that more men are passing than women. The national pass rate for men in 2016/17 was 50.6%, whereas for women it was 43.9%.

Lowestoft comes second to Ipswich with its pass rate of 52.2%, third is Chelmsford with 49.1%, and fourth is Bury St Edmunds with 41.7%.

The Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency statistics shows that pass rates have been increasing since 2008 for Ipswich, Lowestoft, Colchester, and Chelmsford, making 2017/16 their best year.

However, the Bury St Edmunds rates appear to be on the decrease – their best year’s were 2011-2013.
