Leiston boss Glenn Driver has hailed new signing Chris Henderson as “one of the best all-round players in the division” as the Suffolk side continue to strengthen for next season.

Midfielder Henderson, who has signed from Bostik Premier League and Suffolk rivals Lowestoft Town, is one of a number of new faces at Victory Road as the Blues look to push for promotion again in 2017/18.

Right back Kyle Hammond, midfielders Rob Eagle and Dominic Docherty, goalkeeper Marcus Garnham and striker Christy Finch have already signed to boost a team which just missed out on the play-offs last term.

And Henderson will bring more guile and steel to the Leiston engine room, leaving boss Driver delighted.

He said: “Signing Chris Henderson is a very exciting signing for both myself but more importantly Leiston Football Club – he is without doubt one of the best all-round players in the division.

“He can play in many positions but will apply his trade in the centre of our midfield, donning the No 8 shirt. After seeing him play four times last season he was a player I wanted to work with – his appetite for the game is excellent.

“He strives to be the best and will add so much to the way we play – I would personally like to thank Andy Crisp and the board of directors for supporting my decision to bring him to Leiston.”

Henderson said leaving the Trawlerboys after six seasons was a wrench, but he is seeking new challenges at Leiston.

“I had a few options to consider this summer and, while it’s not been an easy decision, I have been massively impressed with the ambitions and vision for the club that was sold to me by Andy (Crisp, Leiston chairman) and Glenn,” he explained.

“What came across when I spoke with them was a real determination to build on last season and take the club forward and I can’t wait to play my part in doing that.

“As I said, it was a tough decision for me to make as I’ve spent the last six years at Lowestoft.

“I had some great times there and developed a really good relationship with the staff and the fans, but I just felt that I wanted a fresh start and new challenge.”
