It was a very special day on Ipswich Hospital’s maternity wing today as a handful of babies were delivered on Mother’s Day.

For Carly Francis, the birth was of her daughter quite a coincidence.

The 28-year-old from Ipswich gave birth to baby Naomi, at 6lb 1oz, five years after her son Yas was born on Father’s Day.

But Naomi is special is more ways than one.

Having suffered a stillbirth in 2012 when she was just 21, Miss Francis found out she was a carrier of Group B Strep – an often invisible infection which can be very harmful if passed on to newborn babies.

The infection meant both of her other children: Yas, now 4, and Kemi, 2, had to have induced births for safety reasons.

Following her stillbirth, Miss Francis fell into a depression, during which she found it tough to be around other babies.

However she wanted to tell would-be mothers that there is always hope.

“I have always wanted my story out there,” she said.

“I would love to let people know what I have been through and what I have achieved so other people will believe in themselves.”

Having suffered a miscarriage last year, she said that Naomi was her miracle baby.

She said: “After everything I’ve been through, she is like a blessing.”

Miss Francis added that the staff at Ipswich Hospital had been “fabulous”.
