Leiston Primary School pupils debated some weighty issues, like education and local jobs, before voting to decide what meant the most.

The school meets fortnightly, in mixed age groups, to discuss topics that affect them on a daily basis, as well as wider issues like online safety, playground improvements and developing the curriculum.

Head of school, Melissa Geater said: “It’s a great way to build a sense of community among the children and staff, as well as develop the children’s understanding of democracy.”

Eloise and Serenity, Year Six classmates, said: “We get the chance to share our opinions so, when we are older, we know why it is important to listen to others.”

Ellie-May, in Year One, said: “Working with the older children lets us share ideas, and it’s good that we learn from each other.”
