HARLOW College is being strongly encouraged by the Government to set up a University Technical College (UTC), in order to offer young people the chance to study technically orientated courses.
The announcement was made exclusively by Harlow MP Robert Halfon during a debate on skills and social justice at the House of Commons yesterday (Wednesday).
In essence, this would be a new technical school, like a conveyor belt from apprenticeships to Higher Education, training young people in plumbing, construction, health science, and engineering, from as young as 14-years-old.
If plans go ahead, Harlow would be one of the first towns in the country to have a UTC, making it a “true British centre of excellence,” said the MP.
Harlow-based learning company Pearson is in advanced talks with the college about supporting their bid.
