Stargazers in Suffolk and Essex missed out on catching a glimpse of the northern lights last night.

Cloudy weather prevented star gazers in Suffolk and Essex from seeing the natural phenomenon.

However weather forecaster Adam Dury, from Weatherquest, said there’s another chance this evening to see the light show.

He said: “The skies last night were not clear enough to see the lights, it was quite a misty night.

“But the north Norfolk coast has a chance of seeing them tonight as the skies are forecasted to be clear.

“To see the lights you need to make sure you are out of the city and in the country side, the lights could appear at any time from 10.30pm to 3.30am.”

The Aurora Borealis, also known as the Northern Lights, is a naturally occurring phenomenon caused by collisions between electrically charged particles released from the sun that enter the earth’s atmosphere and collide with gases such as oxygen and nitrogen.
