A large group of former USAF personnel returned to their old air base to see the completed restoration of one of its iconic planes.

The group, who had all been assigned to the 81st Fighter Wing at Bentwaters and Woodbridge over the years, saw the A-10 ‘Tankbuster’, now resplendent in the 509th TFS markings it wore when based at Bentwaters.

The personnel who attended came from far and wide – some making the journey from the USA – and included crew chiefs, pilots, and the last Wing Commander, Maj Gen Roger Radcliff USAF (ret), who flew the last A-10 out of Bentwaters on March 23, 1993.

To celebrate the Bentwaters Cold War Museum’s 10th anniversary, a special open day takes place on September 17 from 10am to 4pm, when the public will be able to see the A-10 for the first time.

Other attractions will include military vehicles, classic American and British cars, guided tours of the Control Tower, and re-enactors.
