The “strong” sense of community in Saxmundham was on full display during the annual Christmas lights switch-on event on Saturday, organisers have said.
A Christmas Tree festival, lantern procession, market, Santa’s grotto and the eagerly-anticipated Christmas lights switch-on outside Market Hall in the High Street were enjoyed by hundreds of people keen to get in the festive mood.
The event was organised by the Businesses of Saxmundham (BOS).
“It engenders a really strong sense of community spirit which enables people to meet new people at a time when we should all be reflecting and thinking of others, and making sure families are happy and safe,” said chairman Peter Ewart.
“There was a really good attendance throughout the whole day, especially the Santa’s grotto, and everything went to plan.
“All different parts of the community came together and it was very much a fun event for the whole family which built upon the success of last year.”
