A Suffolk sailing club is celebrating the completion of better clubhouse facilities with improved river views.

Members of Slaughden Sailing Club gathered on Saturday to officially open the new clubhouse, funded with £75,000 from Sport England.

The club, which aims to make sailing enjoyable and affordable for the community, has been working for years to achieve the improvements.

“This was quite an achievement in face of a lot of competition for the limited funds available and involved a large amount of work by club members,” said the club’s commodore David Eaton.

Club member and architect Philip Morphy drew up the plans, which include larger changing rooms, improved river views and more storage.

“With an enthusiastic membership that has remained numerically buoyant at a time when many clubs have faced reduced support, we are looking forward to a successful future with our improved clubhouse facilities,” Mr Eaton added.
