Waldringfield Sailing Club hosted their first open event of the year at Easter, with Easter Egg trophies and lots of chocolate eggs to be competed for by several classes.

One of these, the Squib keelboat class, which has been part of Waldringfield since 1970, is still raced for very keenly.

Four of the club’s fleet were on the starting line and were joined by welcome visitors, Andy Moore and Peter Hallinan from Felixstowe Ferry.

Six races over two days saw lots of place changing during racing.

The wind was very gusty, providing testing and exciting conditions, and the club’s visitors showed their class and retained the trophy with five first places, discarding a second.

Second overall were Richard Cooke and Martin Spall, with Peter and Jen Greatrex in third.

The season has just started and the club welcomes interest in Squibs, which provide excellent keelboat racing with a moderate investment.

The club races every Wednesday evening throughout the summer and on Saturday afternoons until October.
