Drivers are warned to expect delays next weekend as thousands of festival-goers find their way to Chelmsford’s Hylands Park.

V Festival starts on Friday, August 18, and ends on Sunday, August 20.

Thousands of festival-goers will be arriving at the park on Friday and leaving on Monday, August 21 - and it is on Monday when the longest delays are expected.

Several roads which surround the venue will be temporarily closed or have temporary speed limits to enable visitors to come and go safely.

The roundabout at Greenbury Way will be closed in some directions between 9am on Friday, August 18, and 4pm on Monday, August 21.

Locally signposted, temporary 30mph speed limits will also be in place from 9am on Thursday, August 17, until 8pm Monday, August 21, to maintain road safety.

All traffic management is subject to change so make sure you check and obey local signage.

Essex Traffic Control Centre are urging road users to check congestion and traffic management before travelling.

You can check this on their website or you can check Twitter @Essex_travel.

Ian Grundy, Essex County Council’s cabinet member for highways, said: “The Essex Traffic Control Centre has many years’ experience helping to manage V Festival traffic.

“Staff work closely over the weekend with the organisers and emergency services with plans in place to solve any potential issues, including any emergency closure of the A12.

“A lot of traffic management lessons have been learned over the years V Festival has been coming to the city.

“We want everybody to enjoy the experience, but we also want them to arrive and get back home safely, whilst minimising traffic congestion where possible.”
